HOW TO HAVE A PURPOSE-DIRECTED CAREER

A career that is directed by the soul’s purpose is one in which you are engaged in work that lights your mind and fills your days with joy. To live from purpose is the most rewarding way to be actively involved in this world. Purpose gives everything greater dimension. It is energizing and satisfying at the same time.

You don’t have to look very far or search hard to find your purpose because it is encoded within your soul or your nature. Awakening that purpose, becoming consciously aware of it, is the most important thing you can do to actualize a richly meaningful life. Purpose is the ultimate self-knowledge.

When your career or work life is grounded in purpose, you are at your best! This is a primary indicator that you are living your soul’s intention. Your mind and heart are in harmony and you give from your highest gifts, talents and abilities. You feel passionate about your work and things just flow from you to optimize the desired results.

Remove the Blocks

1. Sometimes people are hesitant to claim their purpose, thinking it will ask unreasonable sacrifices of them or that they will not be smart enough to fulfill it. Let go of this false and self-defeating kind of thinking as quickly as you can. Anything asked of you from your soul is already supported by your very nature and by Heaven itself. Your natural talents can be applied to the work you have chosen even if you still need to learn more or acquire new skill sets along the way.

2. Another block to a purpose-directed career is plain old fear - fear of failing, fear of succeeding, fear of being visible, fear of starting something new, fear of…….. . And the only way to overcome fear is to face it squarely, name it, and decide to walk right through it.

3. Children often know what it is they came into this world to do, but then well-meaning parents program the knowing right out of them. Don’t discount your dreams and favorite past-times from your early years. Think about what came easily to you. All of this can hold the key to your purpose now.

Declare Your Intention

Once you begin to have a sense of your purpose it is important to claim it and re-enforce it by putting it in a statement of intention.

Examples:

* It is my purpose to create order and peace in my environment.

* I am here to be an inspiration leader.

* My purpose is to make difficult things more easily understandable for others.

* I know I am here to be a calming, healing presence to those in pain.

Notice that these intentions do not state a particular kind of work or employment. What they reflect is a clear mission that can be applied in any career. In fact, your purpose is who you are and how you act in both your personal and professional life. It is not about what you do in your work but why you do it.

Find Your Match

A career in which you can happily apply your purpose will bring great returns, so it is worth your time to research. Think about the following questions and use your answers as a quick guide to your right work:

What career paths have you consistently felt drawn to or been curious about?

What kind of employment have you already enjoyed and wanted to continue?

If you could do something really unique or different within your current career path, what would that be?

What is your “default” behavior in any work situation; how do you just naturally begin to operate in a work-related setting?

Bring Your Purpose to Work

People who work from purpose are like beacons of light in any setting, corporate or entrepreneurial. Their groundedness, happiness, and drive are infectious. Purpose-driven workers are often promoted first because their attitude is exemplary. They know their role and they do the work assigned to them with a responsiveness that is often ahead of their co-workers.
